Pet Relocation
Begins the holiday season and many owners will have a problem of pet relocation.
First of all you have to provide comfortable conditions for the existence of the road to your pet. Use for this purposes various containers and transportation. You need to choose size, type of products (soft frame, with tray, with places for storage of care, with drinkers, open top or front, folding, etc.). Experience shows that it is more convenient in operation and maintenance collapsible carrier on wheels, in which the animal feels free to stand and turn around.
For the transport of large and aggressive dogs in the train makes sense to purchase net enclosure, which can be pulled down to a transportable state, assemble and install in a train compartment. Thus, as passers-by and the dog will feel more secure and the owners themselves – more free. Some airlines have special requirements for shipping containers, take care about it in advance.
If the travelling is unusual for your animal, than prepare for the trip in advance. 2-3 weeks before departure (the sooner the better, can be from childhood – can be used), start to teach your pet to carry. To get started, place the container in the room where the animal feels safe. Put there favorite rug or familiar bedding. If curiosity can not overcome fear – put a treat or a toy in the container, depending on priorities, and praise the animal for the desired behavior. Do not force the events – let your pet get used to and get acquainted with the new”house”. Most of the animals feel quite comfortable in the “burrow” and if at first you can not drive them there, then it will not be able to drive.
Consider options for feeding the animals in the road and at the new location. If you use commercial dog foods – no problem – they do not go bad and you do not have to change the diet for the trip. But using home diet raises the question of changing the type of feeding on commercial feed (gradually within 7-10 days!) Or search for opportunities to prepare food on the road. Alternatively, you can use the canned feeds; just make sure in advance that it taste not only you but also your pet.
If you are a categorical opponent of commercial feed – Bring a bag with a refrigerator or a thermos of chilled food, but remember – spoiled cooked meat is much more dangerous than raw! You can buy an instant soup for yourself, but in any case not for dogs! If you do not want feel the odour on the road – do not change drastically ration animal and do not experiment with any pressing need, at least better than miss one feeding. On the road provide access to water and a toilet. Still we recommend to learn about double dog leashes.
